Friday was a monumental day for the West Midlands as our first elected mayor was announced. For IEWM, this presents a number of exciting opportunities, not least in relation to public sector reform. We're pleased to see Andy Street's dedication to 'Care For Those Who Need It Most'; from tackling mental health problems, to the care of older people, with big focuses on dementia care and an exploration into whether the John Lewis mutual model could be applied to social care providers. Andy Street's manifesto also places a huge focus on digital revolution, something we know is crucial for the future of adult social care in particular and an area we have been championing.
We know how powerful local authorities working together can be, and we hope the election of a mayor for the West Midlands will only further strengthen this, building on the strong and positive relationships that already exist.
